A Message From The Walk Leader

Hello to all of you fellow photographers. I am excited to be leading this photowalk in the historic town of Auburn.

I thought we would start our photowalk in the evening, at 6:00 p.m. at the Auburn Courthouse. For parking, one lot is on 1523 Lincoln Way at the Sparks Law Library, just adjacent to the courthouse. If you drive into that lot and it is full, there is more parking around the corner where a sign says, “Jury Parking.” The Auburn Police Department has assured me that it’s o.k. to park in this lot on a weekend night.

I think that the courthouse is one of the most beautiful buildings in Auburn and will supply us with many photo opportunities. From there, we can go down to old town where all of the eating establishments are located and continue shooting, perhaps including some street photography. I walked the route yesterday (June 7th) up to the other part of old town (High Street and Lincoln Way), and it’s all uphill, less than a mile, but in the summer heat I do not know if it would be wise to walk. If you are really interested in shooting Lincoln Way (which has the old Auburn Hotel), then we could always go back to our cars and car pool to another lot uptown. I thought we could end our shoot there, and I checked with a local bar, the Cable Car, but most likely it will be full on a Saturday night since they usually have entertainment. If we stay downtown, we can end our shoot at 9:00 p.m. at the Auburn Alehouse.

There we can gather at to discuss our photos. You will be asked to submit a photo to me in order to win a Scott Kelby book, and you will be entered to win in the worldwide competition which has some serious prizes.

Suggestions for the walk are: (1) dress comfortably–remember, it’s July and most likely will be warm; wear comfortable walking shoes because we will be going up and down hills; (2) pack light–if you shoot with a DSLR, you might only want to take a few lenses, and if you normally carry a tripod (I do), make sure it’s a lightweight one; (3) remember to have a fully charged battery and enough memory cards with you and a flash if you need one; since we will be shooting into the evening, you should consider using a flash and/or tripod; (4) bring some money so that when we meet at the end of the shoot we can have some refreshments at the Auburn Alehouse.

There is room for fifty participants, so be sure to sign up early to reserve your spot. If you decide that you will not be able to make it, be sure to let me know so that I will not be waiting for you to show. Also, if you have suggestions about shooting in Auburn, please let me know.

Remember, the purpose of this photowalk is to show everyone else what a great town Auburn is (“a picture is worth a thousand words”), to meet people with similar interests, and to HAVE FUN!
